A TRIANGLE UNDER STRINGS

First mentioned in the 17th Century, the Balalaika was primarily used for village and folk music, but it also started to be included in concert performances in the 19th Century. This even leads to the forming of Balalaika orchestras. In that time the Balalaika acquired its iconic triangular shape at that time. The Balalaika we have recorded is a three-stringed prima Balalaika typically tuned in E-E-A tuning. The Balalaika is a small string instrument which most likely originates from central asian lute instruments. Nowadays, Balalaikas are most closely associated with eastern european, especially russian music.

In the making of our Balalaika we focused on creating an instrument with a soft and warm sound reaching for an organic and realistic feel.

All in all our Balalaika can create a tragic and dramatic sound, perfectly fitting in various music styles and genres.

Please note. Kontakt 5 or higher full version is required.

Organic Sound
We mainly focused on capturing the notes in a very realistic and organic way. All main articulations were recorded with a cool condenser in four times round robins and 2-3 velocity layers.

4 Articulations
- Finger
- Plectrum
- Vintage
- Strummed

Tremolo Feature
Utilizing the four articulations we implemented a Tremolo feature, which can be easily controlled by the mod wheel. This tremolo can create a tragic and dramatic effect, perfectly fitting in many different music styles and genres.

Strumming Engine
It is effortless to use - you only need to draw your pattern in the sequencer and flip between dead notes and open strokes - that's it. But you are also free to strum manually by selecting the 'strummed' articulation.
